The Shimano Sephia Clinch Fall Rattle is a jig range new to Australia from Shimano’s JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) series. They have replaced the Sephia Egixile BB Rattle series that was part of the Australian range in previous years. The Clinch Fall Rattle features two glass chambers fitted with glass beads that emit a loud rattle when the jig is retrieved and as it sinks, thus giving it the name ‘Fall Rattle’.
They’re available in both 3.0 and 3.5 size and there are 10 colours in the range. Four of the colours feature a loose weave yet durable cloth with clear or UV bodies, which are great for shallow, clear water and bright days and the other six feature a tight weave and highly durable cloth with heavy contrasting paint schemes with red, gold and rainbow under-foils. Colour 14 (Gurukun) has a red foil on top and UV body underneath, which is very cool. These highly contrasting colour schemes coupled with the loud rattle make these jigs highly effective in deep (8m+) and darker waters where they excelled in testing.
The action of these jigs has been designed to maximise the rattle chambers. They hop upwards with fast up strikes and jut forwards with a sharper jerkbait-style retrieve, they’re not designed for a dart action but the action is unique and highly effective. They were also extremely effective as a drifter, which we attribute to the loud rattle and the high contrast colours that would draw in squid from a distance. Without doubt the standout colours were Banana, Redbait and Goldbait, with the latter two being beautifully painted jigs.
The build quality is outstanding. A large pin holds the sinker and the quality feathers are also pinned very well. The large eyes are an original forward-looking design that are also secured well, and the quality barbs are also secured very well.
