Abu Garcia Veritas Egi Rod

The latest and fourth Veritas series from Abu Garcia once again includes an egi rod and this latest version is their best yet. Always known for the white colour scheme and affordable price tag of around $150, the Veritas offers a great option for the beginner or the budget conscious.

Aesthetically this series sees the blank in a far whiter white with a matte finish and grey EVA grips which gives the rod a great aesthetic that we all agreed is superior to the older models. Features such as Fuji K stainless guides with Alconite inserts and a new 30 ton blank are great features for the entry level price. The all over design of the rod is more refined, guide placement is good and at 7ft 8in it’s a good length for both land based and boat use.

It’s a better rod than its predecessor we reviewed in 2019. It’s not a whippy rod but it can still cast 3.0 and 3.5 jigs a good distance. It’s better suited to 3.0-4.0 size jigs when both casting and retrieving but will do the job when working a 2.5. On the retrieve it features a faster load point which provides far greater control. It has a fast action and a lot of muscle in the rear section that will allow you to tangle with squid of any size. It’s light and it feels good in the hand and is built with solid construction. At $150 I think it’s priced very well and offers a great option for the beginner or the budget conscience.
